NZIHL hands out suspensions to Admirals and Stampede

On Saturday the 14th of July as the clock wound down for the end of the second period, an incident occurred that began with an altercation between West Auckland Admirals goaltender Csaba Kercso-Magos and the Skycity Stampede’s Colin McIntosh, resulting in a brawl between both teams.

After several days of careful deliberation, the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation’s Disciplinary Co-Ordinator Chris Watson has issued the following suspensions to each side.

SKYCITY STAMPEDE
Colin McIntosh: Spearing – Match penalty plus 2 game suspension
Braden Lee: Fighting – Match penalty, 1 game suspension
Hayden Argyle: Fighting – Match penalty, 1 game suspension
Connor Harrison: Fighting – Match penalty, 1 game suspension

WEST AUCKLAND ADMIRALS
Andrew Hart: Check to head and neck – Match penalty plus 3 game suspension
Blake Jackson: Fighting – Match penalty, 1 game suspension
Frazer Ellis: Fighting – Match penalty, 1 game suspension
Matthew Roxborough: Fighting – Match penalty, 1 game suspension

The NZIHF oversees ice hockey in New Zealand, including the NZIHL. The league observes IIHF rules, therefore when it comes to fighting in the game, this will result in a one game suspension as seen with several players involved here.

According to Watson, photos and videos were taken into consideration when evaluating the situation. As a result the match penalty and one game suspension of Roxborough was added.

“It is worthy to note that a number of players were close by and while they were not actively involved in this incident, it is a timely reminder that they need to be responsible for their actions and to listen to the directions given to them by the on-ice officials,” said Watson.

The Admirals have a bye-week in the eight round but will face the Botany Swarm at home the following week, missing several key players. The Stampede host the Red Devils this weekend with McIntosh eligible to return for their round 9 matchup with the Dunedin Thunder.
